Please Bear With Us!!
We’ve suffered a major hit @ZanyPickle. Something has happened to our image galleries, and it has destroyed the posts. The images are still there, but the gallery software took a royal dump. (Yes, this means the eye candy posts too. D’Oh!)
I’m pulling my hair out, trying to get it to wake up. If not, then we’ve lost a LOT of work, but we’ll just carry on from this point — with new gallery software. The single posts, and videos are all fine, and we’ve been reformatting the #’s and types of posts to include less albums and more single shot content anyway.
… and now, back to pulling my hair out.
–Update–
I’m about to vomit. I’m so disgusted with what has happened, that I really don’t want to deal with it now. Even restoring a backup from last week made no difference, right down to just basic preferences. There are over 10,000 images that have been abandoned over several hundred posts. Fixing them 1-by-1 is a daunting task – considering not many people ever go back more than 5 pages. I have the option of deleting the vast majority of those posts with ease….. I’m feeling a large wipe in the near future, but for now, I’ll just sleep on it.
Ah the joys of a beginning blogger. At least it’s only several months lost at this point, instead of years.
(now accepting suggestions for gallery options in Wordpress….)
–Update #2–
It looks like the old posts aren’t coming back. I’ve gone through and hidden a large majority of them, especially from the past week. I’ve got to decide on how I want to proceed.
I can:
- Ditch the daily mega posts all together, and just go with ~20 single pic/vid/joke posts a day. I was doing ~10 galleries a day, but the stats show that not many people actually looked at the entire posts when they went over 50-100 images.
- Streamline them down to just my fave 15-20 pics and put them all on a front page post —ie, scroll-a-palooza.
- Find some other album/gallery solution, and just do random mega posts – ie the Eye Candy, which I can’t put all of those on the front page for obvious reasons.
- Stick with the current method on a MUCH lighter basis – but still have the original problems that lead to this point.
- Manually….. heh, who am I kidding? There were over 10,000 images in just a few months.
Comments and suggestions are always welcomed. The emails I’ve gotten so far have carried a lot of weight. At this point, I’m going with the ~20 single pic/vid posts a day, and will test some series of <10 pics in one front page post.
Stay Tuned, and Thanks for the feedback!
–Update #3–
Well, months later, and I still haven’t found a good way of handling such large posts on a daily basis. I’ve gone through and cleaned out over 400 affected posts. The images are still on the server, so maybe I’ll just do a mega open slideshow type thing – or slowly pic through them to make smaller posts.
If you have any suggestions, send them along. If it can’t handle the thousands of pics each day, I may just go with weekly mega posts of eye candy and such.
Thanks for sticking with us!!

:/ I know the feeling. Best of luck in sorting this out.
